Zach Copland

Zach’s passion for fishing began during summer trips with his Grandfather and Dad, fishing for salmon around the Gulf Islands. His passion turned into an obsession when he got his first fly rod and tying kit. During the spring and summer, Zach fishes the lakes around the Sea to Sky Corridor and the mouth of the Fraser River. During the fall and winter, you can find him on the Squamish River, hunting for salmon, bull trout, and steelhead. Zach loves tying streamers and coming up with new variations of your favorite flies. Currently, he works at Pacific Angler in Vancouver. So, pop on in, and Zach will set you up with the right gear for your next trip!

4 years.

What’s your favorite type of fly fishing?

Swinging streamers for bull trout and salmon.

Favorite holiday destination and why?

Hawaii is my favorite holiday destination because it’s the most laid back place in the world. Also, I enjoy Portland because Portland is awesome.

Favorite fishing memory?

I went out ocean fishing with three buddies last summer, and we got our four per person limit of Chinook. The day was full of non-stop action, and we laughed the whole time. I won’t forget that day of salmon fishing!

Why do you love living where you live?

We are truly spoiled living in Vancouver. Within a short drive from my doorstep, there are numerous remote places to camp, hike, and fish. The great outdoors is always nearby, and when we are done with our adventures, we have a world-class city to hang out in.

Favorite food?

Brisket and smoked Salmon.

Favorite movie?

The Empire Strikes Back.

Favorite band?

The Arcade Fire.

Where I call home?

Ladner, British Columbia.

Pack it in, pack it out, and treat others how you would like to be treated.

What’s on your bucket list?

I would like to fish for monster chinook in Haida Gwaii and bonefish in Hawaii.
