General Practitioner – Tube Fly

General Practitioner – Tube Fly – By Elliot Brass.

This is a tube fly version of the classic salmon fly the General Practitioner. Although, it is a great pattern for salmon, it’s also great for trout and steelhead. Tying this fly on a tube gives you several advantages. For instance, when you hook a fish on a tube, the fly will move up. Therefore your line will not be damaged by the fish. Also, you will have a better chance of landing the fish when using a “trailer hook” versus a traditional salmon hook. Vice for life!!

Tube fly – Easy to follow step by step instructions with photos below:

  • Place your Protube nano tube on the mandrel. Wrap a base of utc 140 hot orange
  • Tie in some red ice dub
  • Pull the ice dub back on its self and tie in

  • Tie in 5-7 quills of Rhea on each side of your fly

When Elliot is not fly fishing, he is most likely on the bench tying flies. After all, tying flies to him is as rewarding as it is hooking into a chrome fish. Always full of stoke and good times, Elliot loves swinging flies and talking about fly fishing. His favourite lucky cap is the Traditional Camo Trucker – Hook.
